    The Process:

Ferrocement Faux Bois is created by applying successive layers of concrete over a hand-wrought steel framework, sculpted entirely by hand using simple tools.

Each layer must be worked before the concrete has set, which requires long continuous hours on the part of the artist. The sculpted surface is then finished using a variety of coloring techniques. This is completely different than the casting method, in which wet concrete is poured into a mold. Unlike cast concrete, each piece is completely unique and cannot be replicated.

    Can I leave it outside?

My work is made from a proprietary concrete recipe that will be able to withstand harsh weather conditions. My mix is nearly 100% waterproof, very hard, and durable, and all my colors are permanent. All of my steel frameworks have been specially treated to prevent the possibility of rust. These are major improvements to the traditional

    Is it heavy?

    Yes!

    What else can you make?

Happily, my answer to this question is: nearly anything. Concrete is an extremely versatile material, and the process of hand sculpting over a steel frame lends itself naturally to a great variety of projects, in nearly any size. It can also be combined freely with other materials, such as wood, glass, stone, bronze, and upholstery.

    How long does it take?

There is a six to eight week lead time on most projects. Projects are completed in the order in which they are received.
